FISHERMEN TOWN RECOVERY STRATEGY
"Living in a place, does mean to own it? what means owning a place? From when do we feel one place ours?" Species of spaces, George Perec
Location: Sancti Petri peninsula, Cadiz, Spain
It used to be a fishermen town dedicated mainly to tuna fishing between years 1944 to 1966. Now it is abandoned.
Its structure was clearly segregated:
BEFORE
ZONING
A town organized by functions
PROJECT PROPOSAL:
Recover the emplacement to re-activate the area creating not only housing but local economic activity through local resources: local fishing and algae picking, creating a new structure for the town organization which enhances and promotes the social interaction.
PROPOSAL
HIBRIDIZATION
A town interrelated socially and economically
HOW?
Modular constructive system using prefabricated concrete biarticulated frames from civil engineering, also getting inspiration from boat construction. The different combination possibilities generate different unit typologies to be inhabited in different ways and privacies.
*Organic floorplan distribution through the peninsula which responds to the winds in that location:
*Cross section
First level: is used for working on fishing tasks and social needs. The material and finishing is concrete which works well with water and humidity.
Second level: is used for living. The material and finishing is wood, to make it warmer and self-built depending on needs and family members. Over this level, triangulated metal structures cover the living areas with textile shade that allows to control opacities.
*Level 02 zoom floorplan
*Level 02 unit floorplan
*Some construction details
*Level 01 unit floorplan
*Longitudinal section zoom
*Cross section zoom
All units would share a common shaft for installations through the frames, as well as the sanitation system and waste management.
